A brief history of the cushion
Cushions were once the appanage of the wealthy. In medieval Europe they embellished the wedding trousseau. They have been found in Egypt in the tombs if Pharaohs.
Their sophisticated shapes, the rich fabric, embroidery and needlework, encrusted with stones and precious metals made them objects of art. The most important ones came from Ancient China where pillows made in ceramics, painted and enamelled porcelain, were only for wealthy families.
The surface of the cushions were enriched with stones, pearls, painted, and with pure gold trimmings. Shi-fanSen a well known goldsmith of the Qin dynasty made a pillow for the emperor Ying Zheng which is the most precious ever created.
Today this is exhibited at the Chinese National Museum.
Cushions produced by CasaFreeda, always different, never the same, are made from materials of various origins and from different periods in time. They all come with a card certfying their origin and history.
